about

With, seriously, the greatest pleasure, joy, respect, and love, I present to you this recording of one of my favorite times that I've done one of my favorite things: the fully improvised live set!! Which at this time to me means: no prerecorded loops, patterns, sequences or notes, all music improvised in real time, in this case without even pre-cueing anything.

I don't like to put too much of my music "philosophy" in writing anymore--it always looks silly after some time passes. But I'll say that right now, this feels like a peak for something I've been developing for the last 8 years, through studio process, and specific practice sessions, and the mental/spiritual development that transcends music because it's the music of living.

I'm trying to learn and do better, always, to not hold on so tightly, to move away from self-centered defensiveness and foolish wanting, to have a life that is cool and not boiling over, a life that doesn't harm itself or others. When I play like this, I know that it's time well spent, and I'm home in a way that truly makes sense. I know it made sense to the people there and I hope it does to you listening now.

This was recorded in the early hours of February 13, 2023, using two Boss DR-5s, a Novation Circuit Rhythm, a small midi keyboard, a 4-channel mixer and a delay pedal, for a small and lovely crowd gathered at a seCret loCation in Brooklyn. I haven't edited the recording at all except to add the gentlest EQ and limiting, and remove about 20 seconds of silence between two songs.

Special thanks to Nik and CC for making the night happen, to everyone else who performed, and to Mali for telling me to keep going.
